What to do if your dog goes missing

The following is important info on how to help K9SD track your missing dog, and may also be of use to people who find themselves in a missing dog situation.
Time is always the most important factor.

The basis of K9 Search Dogs being able to search for a missing dog, is having a reliable scent article to start from. Therefore if you have a missing dog situation, please could you get a scent article securely bagged and stored as soon as possible.

Suitable articles include:

* Dog Coat belonging to missing dog
* Dog bed/cover (if not shared with another dog)
* Dog towel (unlaundered) if used exclusively by the missing dog
*Dog brush containing hair (again must be solely the missing dogs hair)
*Dog Collar or harness or other clothing belonging to missing dog.

These should be placed inside a clean and UNUSED freezer bag,(or similar type of unused bag.) Even wrapping in clean cling film if no bag available. Make sure bag is closed and kept somewhere cool where it can be made available to the searchdog handler.

Try not to handle the article or allow it to come into contact with anything, any more than possible, just get it bagged ASAP. This helps provide the scent article for the search dog.

IN ORDER TO GET A SEARCH DOG TO A SIGHTING LOCATION ASAP, ITS IMPORTANT THAT YOU CALL US THE MOMENT YOU HAVE A POSITIVE SIGHTING.

YOU CAN CALL US ON
01566 783233
OR
07721597926

If there is no answer please leave a message and someone will contact you when they are available.

Sadly we are not able to respond to calls to search for cats or tortoises or any animal other than DOGS or humans.

Please note that due to hoaxes and the need to keep our hounds and handlers safe at all times, all calls to K9SD are logged, monitored and verified before we set off for a search. No "withheld" phone numbers are accepted by either phone number and so if your phone no. is withheld by default you WILL need to alter this setting before your call can be put through.

Traps and Cameras

We can loan out our cage traps to help trap a dog that is in a known area but proving hard to catch.

We also have a CAA licenced UAV pilot who can undertake drone searches in certain areas and Trail Cameras to hire out.

FINALLY:- WE ARE A SMALL CHARITY AND WE DO NOT CHARGE FOR CALL OUTS TO SEARCH FOR MISSING DOGS. HOWEVER LIKE ANY SMALL CHARITY WE APPRECIATE DONATIONS ESPECIALLY IF YOU FEEL WE HAVE HELPED YOU SEARCH FOR YOUR DOG AS THIS MEANS WE ARE ABLE TO COVER OUR FUEL COSTS FOR THE SEARCHES

The Search Dogs are based in the South West of England. All handlers are volunteers in their spare time and at this time searches are restricted to Devon, Cornwall and Somerset

If your dog is lost in any other area then sadly we are unable to assist at this time.
